On Monday, March 2, The Brief will move to a new digital home in SharePoint (where DragonNet is located): https://drexel0.sharepoint.com/sites/Law-TheBriefNewsletter/

This update will help streamline and improve the publishing process for student-facing announcements, events and funding opportunities.

Timely content on the old site will be re-published in SharePoint ahead of the move.

How to Submit an Item for Publication in The Brief, Starting March 2

    • Faculty and Staff: Faculty and staff should submit announcements, events, writing competitions, funding opportunities, etc. using the appropriate form on The Brief SharePoint site. A draft of your post will be created automatically and published after review and approval by the Marketing & Communications Office. While Emily Baker is on leave, Purnell Cropper (ptc44@drexel.edu) will manage the publishing process.
      • Note: The form will allow you to add a file to your post.
    • Student Org Events: No change. Student organizations should continue to follow the current process, using the Event Request Portal. If you include a publicity request, details about your event will flow into The Brief SharePoint site once your event is approved by Mallory Heller, director of facilities and events. The draft will be reviewed and published by the Marketing & Communications Office.

    Weekly Reminders

We’ll continue to send reminder emails at the start of the week prompting you to visit The Brief SharePoint site for the latest updates.

We appreciate your cooperation and flexibility during this transition. Thank you for your support in keeping The Brief running smoothly.

    Best regards,
The Drexel Kline Marketing & Communications Office

  • Starting a New Student Organization

Important information regarding the Spring session for New Student Organization proposals.

    Important Dates & Deadlines

Please mark your calendars for the following dates:

    • Proposal Deadline: Friday, March 6, by 11:59 PM. The proposal form is attached. Send completed forms to SBALAW@drexel.edu.
    • Proposal Session: Monday, March 9, at 8 PM (via Zoom).

You will receive the Zoom link for the proposal session once your form has been successfully submitted and reviewed. This gives you one month to prepare your proposals!

How to Propose a New Organization

The proposal form requires the following:

    • Organization Name
    • Membership: At least 4 members (including an interim President).
    • Faculty Advisor: A confirmed faculty member to oversee the group.
    • Mission Statement: A clear outline of your group’s purpose and goals.
    • Budget Proposal: Preliminary ideas on how your organization will utilize its funds.

Standard Requirements: All active orgs are expected to hold at least one General Body meeting per semester, lead one ARC session per year, host one community service event per year, and abide by all event request procedures. Of course, newly active orgs will receive a training with these necessary action items. If you have any questions about org requirements as you prepare your proposal, please don't hesitate to reach out.

What to Expect at the Proposal Session

At least one founding member must attend the Zoom session on March 9. You do not need a formal PowerPoint or speech, but you should be prepared to introduce your group and answer questions from the SBA voting bodies. Common questions include: How does this organization distinguish itself from existing groups? What is your planned leadership structure? What specific community values does your organization promote?

The Voting Process: To achieve active status, a proposal must receive a majority vote from two bodies:

    • The Student Org Committee: Comprised of three SBA E-board members and two SBA student representatives.
    • The SBA General Body: SBA Members present during the session.

Capacity Notice: In the event that we receive a significant number of proposals, we may choose to limit this session to the first ten (10) proposals received. Any submissions beyond this cap will be prioritized for the Fall session. This is to ensure each group receives fair and adequate time for review.

    Policy Update: Affinity Groups

Affinity groups formally recognized by the American Bar Association (ABA) are no longer subject to a voting procedure. Provided the proposal form is submitted timely and correctly, these groups will receive automatic recognition. This change aligns our SBA objectives with the ABA and promotes an inclusive environment for all students.
