Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner has appointed alumnus Mike Lee to serve as interim director of legislation.
Lee, ’09, co-founded Philadelphia Lawyers for Social Equality, a non-profit organization that seeks justice for low-income individuals who have been in contact with the criminal justice system through programs that promote fair employment and criminal records expungement.
The organization has helped thousands of individuals in and around Philadelphia get out-of-date and inaccurate criminal records expunged and successfully advocated for employment opportunities by challenging illegal use of criminal record data by employers in their hiring practices.
Lee has been recognized for his contributions by the Pennsylvania Bar Foundation, which provided PLSE with the 2017 Louis J. Goffman Award, and by the Young Lawyers Division of the Philadelphia Bar Association, which honored him with the F. Sean Peretta Service Award in 2013.
In 2017, Billy Penn named Lee as a rising leader in Philadelphia, citing his role as campaign chair for Krasner, who was elected in November 2017. Krasner overcame long odds in the election, in which he defeated six candidates in the Democratic primary, despite his lack of experience as a prosecutor.
