Moot Court Board Wraps Up a Strong Season

Gwen Williams and Eric Bergel in New Orleans3L Gwen Williams took second-place honors as Best Oral Advocate at the 2014 Judge John R. Brown Admiralty Moot Court Competition in New Orleans on April 3-6.

She and her teammate, 3L Eric Bergel, won two of their first 3 first-round arguments in the competition, narrowly missing the chance to advance.  They were coached by Senior Associate Dean Kevin Oates.

The result highlighted a very strong season for the Moot Court Board, which included second-place honors for 2Ls Anthony DiJiacomo and Stephany Gordon for the brief they wrote for the Thurgood Marshall Moot Court Competition in Washington, D.C. March 27-28.

The 2Ls wrote one of just three briefs that received awards at the prestigious competition, sponsored by the Federal Bar Association. 

The students were coached by adjunct Professor Veronica Finkelstein, who is an assistant U.S. attorney with the U.S. Department of Justice.

3L Roderick Fancher was named Top Oral Advocate in the Mid-Atlantic Rounds of the Philip C. Jessup International Moot Court Competition on Feb. 20-23.

Kia Ghee and Alisha Lubin, both 2Ls, advanced to the finals in the Mid-Atlantic Regional Frederick Douglass Moot Court Competition on Feb. 8 and 9, where they were named First Runners Up.
