Curriculum

The China Collaborative will develop and coordinate educational outreach programs for teaching about China.  We will provide curriculum materials about China and Chinese culture for Philadelphia schools.

During the 2012-2013 academic year, Drexel School of Education Professor Hope Yursa and Dr. Christy Hu, a Drexel visiting scholar from Minzu University in Beijing, worked with kids from the Powel School enrichment program to teach units about China and Chinese culture.  Topics included writing Chinese characters, Chinese astrology and folk tales, and Chinese food. Professor Yursa and Dr. Hu also took the students on a tour of Philadelphia’s Chinatown to learn firsthand about Chinese culture.  The tour included a Buddhist temple, a fortune cookie factory, a Chinese supermarket, and a Chinese restaurant, culminating in a delicious lunch of savory Chinese dishes.
