Past Projects

Disaster Preparedness Toolkit for Families with Children with Special Health Care Needs

In partnership with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the CPHRC collaborated on a four-year project with the AJ Drexel Autism Institute, the Pennsylvania Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the Center for Children and Youth with Special Health Care Needs at St. Christopher's Hospital for Children in Philadelphia to study the disaster information needs of children and youth with special health care needs (CYSHCN).

To help address these disaster information needs, we created this toolkit of disaster preparedness resources for families of CYSHCN.

Primary Care Medical Practices and Public Health Emergency Preparedness

Primary care medical practices in ambulatory settings play an important role in community preparedness for public health emergencies. They provide medical care, serve as a trusted source of health information, and prepare individuals with special health care needs for disasters.

The Center for Public Health Readiness and Communication has developed a set of tools to assist practices with these tasks.

Public Health Responder Safety - A Framework

The Center for Public Health Readiness and Communication has developed a framework to protect public health workers during the response to emergencies and disasters.

The framework adapts guidelines for health care workers to address safety and personal protective needs in four different public health field situations: the public health field investigation, mass care services and shelters, points of dispensing, and community reception centers for population monitoring after radiation emergencies.

Ensuring the Delivery of Human Services in Disasters

In many communities, non-profit human services agencies (HSAs) are relied upon to meet the needs of at-risk communities in crisis situations.

In collaboration with the United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey, the Center for Public Health Readiness developed a white paper that outlines existing capacity and challenges for HSAs in Southeastern Pennsylvania, and proposes recommendation for future planning.
