Tom Hipper Lectures at The College of New Jersey on the Use of New Media and Technology in Disasters On November 13th, 2014, Tom Hipper, Program Manager of the CPHRC, gave a lecture at The College of New Jersey on the use new media and technology in disasters. Speaking to a group of Communication Studies students, Hipper discussed the use of social media, mHealth, crowdsourcing, and crisis mapping in recent disasters, including the current Ebola outbreak. Hipper also reviewed the fundamental concepts of Crisis and Emergency Risk Communication, and the ways in which these technologies can be used to help those communicating in disasters adhere to these principles.
