Tom Hipper was invited to speak as part of a panel at the annual Society of Toxicology Meeting in San Antonio, TX in March. As part of a session entitled, "Communicating Science: Unconventional Oil and Gas Operations as a Case Study," Tom discussed risk communication challenges and best practices associated with hydraulic fracturing, also known as "fracking." The goal of the session was to stimulate discussion on the role of toxicologists in risk and science communication, the challenges and solutions to effective communication on controversial public health issues, and the difficulty of developing policy decisions on a polarizing issue.
