Information for Neighborhood Organizations

Community-based nonprofit organizations are integral partners for Drexel’s commitment to civic engagement. The University’s many deep-rooted and authentic partnerships not only benefit local communities and businesses, they expand educational opportunities for our students and generate positive change. They enhance the quality of life and economic development of the West Philadelphia region and beyond.

The Office of University and Community Partnerships offers a variety of pathways for local organizations to connect with Drexel students, faculty, and professional staff:

  • For organizations with a mission serving West Philadelphia neighborhoods, there may be opportunities to bring programming to the Dornsife Center for Neighborhood Partnerships. This is determined through interest from local residents and whether the work of the organization is consistent with the Center's mission. Read more about how the Dornsife Center works with nonprofit partners.
  • Nonprofits may also be interested in hosting a Drexel Community Collaborator through the Lindy Center for Civic Engagement. These students make a sustained commitment of 5-15 hours per week towards direct service or capacity-building to qualifying organizations over one or more academic terms.
  • Organizations with volunteer service opportunities can also connect with the Lindy Center. Some possibilities include arranging for Drexel student volunteers to assist with events at your organization, developing Alternative Spring Break programming for Drexel students, or offering intensive Day of Service opportunities on MLK Day.
  • Community-Engaged Learning invites neighborhood-serving organizations to be part of Drexel courses, building unique learning experiences and creating community between students and local partners and residents. Side-by-side classes give local residents the opportunity to take part in Drexel courses alongside our undergraduate students - doing all of the work and reading and participating fully in classroom discussion. Other community-engaged learning formats connect Drexel knowledge resources with local partners in a number of ways.
