Sunday, September 15th

  • Placekeeping Sunday Socials
    Sunday, September 15th, 2:00 – 4:00pm: Mantua Civic Association, 3729 Melon Street
    It's time to piece together our story—sharing memories and envisioning the best possible future. At our final summer social, we will eat, drink, groove to some tunes, talk Second Story co-housing, and finish the paper quilt that reflects our journey. Art workshops by the Museum of Black Joy, broadcast by WURD, music by DJ Robi, food by Honeysuckle Provisions. RSVP here!

Monday, September 16th

  • Lindy Center for Civic Engagement Open House
    Monday, September 16th, 11:00am - 3:00pm: Lindy Center for Civic Engagement, 3210 Cherry Street
    The Lindy Center for Civic Engagement is kicking off Welcome Week with an open house and we can’t wait to meet you! This event is a perfect opportunity for new students to explore Drexel's civic engagement programs and resources more deeply, interact with their community, and receive information about involvement curricular, co-curricular, and student employment opportunities ahead of starting classes. Attendees will also have the opportunity to participate in an onsite blanket making service activity. Stop by for snacks and refreshments, music, giveaways and fun!

Tuesday, September 17th

  • Community Cook-out at the Dornsife Center
    Tuesday, September 17th 4:30pm – 7:30pm: Dornsife Center for Neighborhood Partnerships, 3509 Spring Garden Street
    Join us, and our West Philly neighbors, for a community cookout at the Dornsife Center starting with a tour of the facility!  Learn about the wide variety of programs, volunteer opportunities, and community resources available through the Dornsife Center, and then enjoy a meal with your new neighbors in the Dornsife Garden. Pre-dinner tours will begin at 4:30pm, 5:00pm, and 5:30pm. Dinner will begin at 6:00pm.
  • Writers Room Third Tuesday: Welcome (Back)
    Tuesday, September 17, 4:30pm – 6:00pm: Dornsife Center Lindy House, 3509 Spring Garden St
    Writer Room’s annual back-to-school night! Join us as we kick off the 2024-2025 season with our first monthly workshop of the year. Greet old friends, meet new ones, and help us sketch out what’s ahead for Year 11 at Writers Room. Free and open to all, with community dinner immediately following.

Wednesday, September 18th

  • Neighborhood Walking Tour and Discussion
    Wednesday, September 18th 9:00am – 12:00pm: Beginning at the Lindy Center for Civic Engagement, 3210 Cherry Street
    Join us for a walking tour of the neighborhoods surrounding Drexel. Beginning at the Lindy Center for Civic Engagement at 9:00am, participants will enjoy a light breakfast before we depart on our tour at 9:30am. During the tour, we will get familiarized with some of the neighborhoods surrounding campus, have an opportunity to speak with local leaders, and hear about the rich history of our community.   • Welcome Week with Writers Room
    Wednesday, September 18, 12:00pm – 1:30pm: Ross Commons, 229 N. 34th St, 3rd Fl Come to Writers Room for lunch and a conversation about home, community, and what it means to be a new member of this beautiful neighborhood. You are encouraged to participate in the walking tour of Mantua/Powelton organized by the Lindy Center and Dornsife Center preceding this event, but all are welcome!
  • Drexel Digital Navigators – Closing the Digital Divide in Philly
    Wednesday, September 18, 2:00pm – 3:00pm: Drexel ExCITe Center, 3401 Market St., Suite 100
    Drexel has a strong history of technological leadership and advocacy, but the divide between digital haves and have nots in society is growing. We started one of the first Digital Navigator programs in the country to assist the local community with finding low-cost Internet access, technical support, fixing and distributing refurbished computers, teaching digital skills classes, and more. Come learn how easy it is to help close the digital divide!

    Are you looking for information about civic engagement at Drexel? Interested in volunteering? Come to the Lindy Center any time between 10:00am and 3:00pm for a personal civic engagement consult with one of our knowledgeable staff members – no appointment necessary.
  • Climate Café, in partnership with Drexel Climate and Sustainability
    Thursday, September 19th 3:00pm – 4:00pm: Lindy Center for Civic Engagement, 3210 Cherry Street
    Anxiety and concern about climate change is real and affects many of us, piling up on top of life’s other stresses. A climate cafe provides a welcoming, informal and private space to share what we’re feeling and thinking. All Drexel students, faculty, staff and neighbors are welcome to attend.
