Professor Brenda Dyer reconnected with Nicole Bedoya, BA global studies ’19, to hear about Nicole's experiences as a first generation student, her frequent studies abroad, and how Drexel gave her the resources to earn a 2020 Fulbright Scholarship as an English Teaching Assistant in Brazil. Nicole will graduate in December 2024 from the University of Pennsylvania with a Master of Science in International Education Development.
Professor Simone Schlichting-Artur chats with alum Sofie Rhoads, BA international area studies ’08, who leveraged her knowledge of the German language and culture with experience gained from studying abroad in Germany to fine-tune her professional passions and find success in the ‘real world.’ After graduation, Sophie served with the Peace Corps as an English teacher in Albania from 2009-2011 before embarking on a career in immigration law with an American company in Frankfurt, Germany – where she completed her second of three co-ops.
Global Studies Department Head Rebecca Clothey sits down with Glenn Muschert, a class of 1992 International Area Studies (now Global Studies) alum. Listen in as Glenn discusses his time at Drexel University, the impact of studying abroad in Germany during the 'Peaceful Revolution' and fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, and how Drexel shaped his career path as a professor of digital sociology in the Department of Public Health and Epidemiology at Khalifa University, Abu Dhabi, UAE.

Welcome to our inaugural episode of 'On the Map!' Meet Jared Keenan, a 2009 graduate of Drexel's International Area Studies program (now called Global Studies), who serves as the Legal Director of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Arizona. In this role, Keenan focuses on core civil rights and civil liberties issues including criminal legal reform, education equity, LGBTQ+ equality and immigrants’ rights in both state and federal court.
