Summer Career and Professional Development Opportunities
June 23, 2023
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) Office of Intramural Training & Education (OITE) is a division of the Office of Intramural Research (OIR), Office of the Director (OD). Our mission is to enhance the training experience of students and fellows on all of the NIH campuses. We work closely with the Training Offices in the NIH Institutes and Centers to help trainees in the Intramural Research Program (IRP) develop scientific and professional skills that will enable them to become leaders in the biomedical research community. (The IRP is the sum of all the research projects carried out by NIH investigators and trainees in NIH facilities.)
We provide services to multiple groups:
- Current trainees in programs in the NIH IRP
- Potential applicants to training programs at the NIH
- Investigators and staff at the NIH
- Trainees and investigators outside the NIH (in the extramural community)
The NIH OITE offers a FREE virtual summer enrichment curriculum which will focus on the exciting science happening at the NIH and on important career and professional development topics for students at all educational levels. We encourage you to look at all the program offerings and identify events that will help you achieve your scientific and career goals. A calendar of events with links to registration and previous session recordings can be found on the NIH OITE website.
In addition, the NIH has released recordings from their 16th Annual Career Symposium. The virtual event provided a unique opportunity for trainees to hear directly from professionals across a wide array of careers to learn about their individual career stories and experiences. With over 6000 attendees from NIH and around the world and with 275 speakers & panelists, this was NIH-OITE's largest Career Symposium to date. Recordings of the main talks from the symposium are available for viewing on YouTube.
More career resources for graduate students can be found on the NIH OITE website.
