Department of Cinema & Television Partners with Boston Global Youth Philanthropy to Empower Young Filmmakers for Social Impact

October 24, 2025

Drexel University’s Antoinette Westphal College of Media Arts & Design is proud to announce a new collaboration between its Department of Cinema & Television and Boston Global Youth Philanthropy (GYP),an organization dedicated to engaging young people in global humanitarian initiatives. This partnership represents an exciting opportunity to expand youth engagement in socially conscious storytelling and to inspire the next generation of filmmakers to use media as a tool for change.

Through this collaboration, Westphal faculty will lead a series of virtual seminars and workshops for GYP participants worldwide, offering professional insights into storytelling, documentary production, and ethical filmmaking. These sessions will introduce students to the creative and social power of film while emphasizing the importance of authenticity and responsibility in media.

Drexel Cinema & Television students will also play a key role by serving as judges for GYP’s annual Youth Humanitarian Film Festival, which celebrates young filmmakers (ages 13–25) who create films that promote empathy, collaboration, and global understanding.

In addition, GYP will provide social impact volunteer opportunities for Drexel students who wish to engage directly with international youth initiatives, connecting classroom learning with real-world humanitarian projects. The partnership will also include mentorship opportunities, with Drexel faculty and graduate students guiding GYP participants in developing their creative voices and amplifying their messages for social good.
