The Drexel Photography Program at Westphal University recently had one of their renowned faculty, Andrea Modica featured on LENSCRATCH, a Fine Art Photography daily blog. Professor Modica participated in LENSCRATCH's series "Photographers on Photographers" which features artists discussing their practices together for the whole month of August.

Professor Modica recently released a new photobook titled January 1 which features portraits of Mummers from the brigade known as Wenches. This photobook is the culmination of a 10 year project, made over 10 New Years Days from 2009-2018. Professor Modica discusses with photographer Lydia Panas the idea of the all-male Wenches brigade donning female garb and the idea of this tradition being passed from one generation to the next.

Andrea Modica is a Guggenheim Fellow, a Fulbright Scholar, a Knight Award and Anonymous Was a Woman Grant recipient. She has released multiple photobooks including Treadwell, Barbara, Minor League, Human Being, Fountain, As We Wait and January 1
