Sibby Merkel Brasler Lecture Series presents: Comics "Superhero" Scott McCloud at Drexel University

November 30, 2006

  • Scott McCloudThursday, November 30 @ 7pm
  • Bossone Research Center Auditorium
  • 3141 Chestnut Street, Philadelphia

FREE and OPEN TO THE PUBLIC (Seating limited. Booksigning immediately following lecture)

America's leading comics theorist, (also an author and comics artist) Scott McCloud, will give a fast-paced, "visual lecture" with Apple's Keynote presentation program (hipper and better than PowerPoint) and live sketching at an event sponsored by Drexel's Antoinette Westphal College of Media Arts & Design.

McCloud will be talking about his new book, "Making Comics: Storytelling Secrets of Comics, Manga and Graphic Novels."

He's also the author of "Understanding Comics: The Invisible Art" and "Reinventing Comics: How Imagination and Technology Are Revolutionizing an Art Form" and "24 Hour Comics."

Not only is McCloud's work the gold standard for aspiring comic artists, he's also a comics scholar, sought after as a speaker by the likes of M.I.T., Harvard, Princeton and the Smithsonian to talk about comics as an artistic and literary medium as well as "new media" theory. A fascinating speaker, McCloud's message appeals not only to those who like to draw comic strips, superheroes, web comics, anime or neo-manga, and to those who like to read them, but also to anyone interested in learning about narrative and flow in other media such as film and animation.

"If you've ever felt bad about wasting your life reading comics, then check out Scott McCloud's classic books immediately. You might still feel you've wasted your life, but you'll know why, and you'll be proud." -- Matt Groening, creator of The Simpsons

Scott McCloud's appearance is presented by the Digital Media Program of the Antoinette Westphal College of Media Arts & Design, Drexel University and The Sibby Merkel Brasler Lecture Series. For more info on Scott McCloud visit:
