Fulbright Talk and Q&A w/ GUEST Fulbright Ambassador Prof. Steven Butterman

Friday, November 22, 2024

10:00 AM-11:30 AM

RSVP required for both the face-to-face & Zoom sessions.

You are invited to join Prof. Steven Butterman, a Fulbright Alumni Ambassador from the University of Miami, giving a presentation to Drexel faculty about his Fulbright experience and giving tips on how our faculty can start their own Fulbright adventures.

As a Fulbrighter to Brazil, Steven's research topic was LGBT+ Brazilians Out / Inside Brazil: Cultural Representations of Human Rights Discourses, Identity Reconstruction, and Political Asylum. He is a Professor in Modern Languages at University of Miami, and his teaching includes Media, Film, and Visual Studies, Postcolonial and Decolonial Studies, Social Movements and Networks, Women, Gender, Sexuality, and Queer and Trans Studies.

As a Fulbright Ambassador, Steven's mission is to reach out to college and university faculty, both full-time and adjunct, to make them aware of Fulbright Scholar opportunities in a variety of fields in both research and teaching abroad. A Fulbright Award benefits the awardee as much as their home institution in the US and their host institution overseas.

Attend the session to hear him share about his background, what led him to apply for a Fulbright, how he approached the application, how it has impacted him professionally and personally, and how it has impacted his home institution. He will also explain Fulbright's live and online resources available throughout the application process.

Prof. Butterman will be hosted by Drexel's own Legacy Fulbright Alumni Ambassador and former Fulbright-Nehru Scholar to India Jeffrey Stanley. This Fulbright Talk runs approximately 45 minutes followed by 15 minutes for Q&A.

This will be held both in-person and via ZOOM.

Light refreshments will be served in-person.
