On Friday, October 4th, the Cinema & Television
Department is hosting Foley Artist Shelley Roden as a Rankin
Scholar-in-Residence! Shelley Roden is an award-winning Foley Artist at
Skywalker Sound in Northern California. Her credits include Ahsoka,
The Mandalorian, Loki, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Glass Onion, Top Gun:
Maverick, Turning Red, Toy Story 4, Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 3, Avengers:
Endgame, Tenet, Dunkirk, and Kong: Skull Island. Her

Foley in Live Action Film: Colewell
12pm – 2pm, URBN Annex Screening Room
Shelley Roden and Cinema & Television faculty member Tom
Quinn will discuss her approach to elevating story, character, and emotion in
live action film using her work on Professor Quinn’s feature film Colewell.
Through the subtle comparison of production sound, foley, and the final mix,
students will learn about the creative choices and techniques used when
creating foley for live action film and television.
Foley in Animation: Screening & Q&A on
Inside Out 2
7pm – 10pm, University Crossings Room 028
Inside Out 2 will be screened, followed by a
discussion and Q & A with Shelley Roden on the usage of foley and sound in
animation. Shelley will talk through her techniques on the film, how
animation differs from live action projects, and the unique opportunities and
challenges of creating sound for animation.
