"Julia's Room" Opening Reception

Friday, July 26, 2024

6:00 PM-8:00 PM

The Pearlstein Gallery presents "Julia's Room" a one day only event created by David Hannon in collaboration with Darren Woodland Jr. Imagining a past through the lens of the avatar Julia, Julia’s Room reconstructs a narrative about growing up queer in a heteronormative domestic environment. Through the fabrication of a site responsive installation incorporating sculpture, video, AR and performance, it is centered around the miniature site of Julia’s room. Julia’s Room investigates themes of absurdity, nostalgia to communicate how a queer person and others become incongruous to their domestic environment, and how Julia and the audience navigates these imagined yet familiar spaces.
