Rankin Scholars in Residence Series & Farajollah & Maryam Badie ARFAA Lecture Series - Eric Howeler
Thursday, April 13, 2023
6:00 PM-8:00 PM
UNDER THE WEATHER
Unlike weather, climate is, by definition, a statistical phenomenon, a set of records, data points, and averages collected over long periods of time. Architecture exists in both weather and climate. It is an immediate response to phenomena, rain, wind, and snow—shielding and sheltering from the elements. But it can also create spaces for making those forces more visible. This lecture will explore Höweler + Yoon's remarkable designs for ecological education and environmental immersion. Designs such as FloatLab, planned for the Schuylkill River at Bartram’s Garden, use architecture to promote research, eco-literacy, and environmental remediation. Eric Höweler will also be leading this year’s Charrette sponsored by the Department of Architecture, Design & Urbanism.
Free and open to the public

The Rankin Scholar-in-Residence Series, named in honor of former Dean Marjorie Rankin and established through the continuing donations of her friends and colleagues, seeks to bring noted individuals to campus who excel in the multidisciplinary education championed by the Antoinette Westphal College of Media Arts & Design. The goal of the Series is to inspire students, stimulate research, invigorate professional networks, and aid in the continuing development of the Drexel community.
