May 30, 2013

Drexel University’s Westphal College of Media Arts & Design and the Drexel University Music Program invite musicians of all ages and expertise to a gathering of internationally known experts who will explain how to promote their original musical ideas and products to the market. This free and open to the public event, “Making Music Work: Music Technology from Concept to Consumer,” will take place June 5, 6:30 p.m. at the Mandell Theater on 33rd and Chestnut Streets, Philadelphia.

Drexel University’s music, technology and entrepreneurial program directors will engage with representatives from music equipment manufacturing companies that help get music heard in the modern marketplace.

The panel of experts hosted by Drexel Music Program Director Luke Abruzzo includes: Bob Wilson of Disc Makers, Inc.; Jason Gano of Korg, USA; Ray Legnini of Aviom Technology, Inc.; Dan Gold from Danny’s Guitar Shop; Drexel Baiada Institute Director Mark Loschiavo, Drexel ExCITe Center/Electrical and Computer Engineering Department Director Youngmoo Kim; and Drexel Music Industry Assistant Professor Mathieu Gendreau.

As a prelude to the discussion, panelists, faculty members and featured guests will join the Drexel University Mediterranean Ensemble in a performance guest starring acclaimed musicians Bill Koutsouros and William Tayoun under the direction of Drexel Mediterranean Ensemble Director Bruce Kaminsky. The audience will be asked to sing along with the performance by accessing lyrics on their smartphones, tablets and other mobile devices.

“This is a truly wonderful opportunity for the community of music writers, music technology developers and music lovers to come together to explore new ways of bringing new musical concepts to the public,” says Kaminsky. “Through the direct presence of our colleagues from several of our Drexel colleges on the panel, as well as representatives from Korg, Aviom, Disc Makers and Danny’s, we’re trying to facilitate a discussion that can provide substantial marketing help to musicians who don’t usually have access to this kind of expertise.”
