APPLY ONLINE NOW!
ABOUT THE ONE WEEK SUMMER PROGRAM
The one week residency Photography Workshop will be an intensive exploration of the many facets that make up photography in the 21st century. We will cover all main areas of the medium with one-two day intensive lessons. We will begin in the studio covering the workflow of lighting both still life and portraits. Then we will move into our state of the art digital labs where we will learn how to harness the full power of Photoshop and make large prints from the prior two days in the studio. Finally, we will spend two days in the darkroom exploring the alchemy that make traditional photography such a magical process. We will also be going on a field trip to the Philadelphia Museum of Art to visit their Prints and Photographs collections where you will see first-hand, prints made by the masters of the medium. Finally, the workshop will culminate with an exhibition of the work produced by the students that parents and the public will be invited to attend to view.
Field trips, guest lectures and demonstrations:

About the Photography Program
The Drexel University Photography program teaches students how to develop a unique photographic vision using a combination of aesthetics and technology. Using both applied and theoretical teaching methods and blending traditional processes with current digital technologies, the photography curriculum provides aspiring photographers with the breadth of experience and knowledge required to succeed in today’s marketplace. The photography foundation courses are the same for each student until their third year, at which point they design a custom path of study that culminates in their senior thesis portfolio. Our alumni’s achievements reflect the diversity built into our program. They own successful photography studios, teach in high school and college programs, serve as curators, work as magazine photo editors and operate their own digital illustration firms.
General Information
Eligibility: We welcome high school students who are at least 16 years of age who have completed their sophomore or junior year by July, prior to the start of the program. We encourage anyone who is excited about design to apply and we limit each program to 14 students.
Faculty: Students will be taught by Drexel faculty from the Department of Photography in the Westphal College of Media Arts & Design. The faculty will be assisted by teaching assistants all of whom will spend one-on-one time with every student.
Housing and Meals: Students will reside together in one of Drexel's undergraduate dormitories. Housing is dual occupancy, mono-gendered. In the event of uneven numbers, students may be placed in a single occupancy dorm room. Housing is assigned according to declared gender on the application form. There will be around-the-clock supervision by resident assistants who reside with the students in the residence hall, and faculty supervision during the day. Meals will be provided through Drexel Dining Services and other meal providers during field trips.
What will you bring home with you: Students who successfully complete the one-week program will receive a program certificate from Drexel University’s Photography Department.
