Sequoyah Hunter-Cuyjet is the Vice President of Determined by Design, a socially-conscious design firm based in Washington, D.C., Hunter-Cuyjet's childhood on the Shinnecock Indian Reservation in Southampton, NY, where they grew up surrounded by nature, fostered a deep appreciation for traditional craftsmanship, and instilled a passion for design. Her diverse art and culturally-rich background, combined with her multidisciplinary design experience, make her a versatile and talented designer leader.
Hunter-Cuyjet earned a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Arts from Sarah Lawrence College, where she studied art, literature, and anthropology. She also holds a Master of Fine Arts in Interior Design from Moore College of Art + Design, where she was the first Native American to graduate from the MFA program in Interior Design. Boutique Magazine recognized her as a 2020 Boutique 18—a rising star in hospitality design.
Hunter-Cuyjet is actively involved in various committees and organizations, including the Founding Member of HDAC, ASID DEI Committee (National), and the Shinnecock Planning Committee. Her work focuses on promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in the design industry, advocating for design equity, and providing quality design for underrepresented communities.
