Identify Employers

A successful job search begins with identifying employers that align with your interests, values, skills, and career goals. Rather than just planning to apply broadly, develop a targeted list of organizations and continue to expand it as you learn more about your field. 

Start with Drexel Resources

Take advantage of the career resources available through the Steinbright Career Development Center: 

• Handshake – Search for co-op, internship, part-time, and full-time opportunities, connect with employers recruiting Drexel students and alumni, and register for career fairs and employer events. 
• LinkedIn Alumni – Explore where Drexel graduates work, identify employers that hire alumni from your major, and build professional connections. 
• Dragon Network – Connect with Drexel alumni for career conversations, mentoring, and insights into organizations and industries that interest you. 

Research Employers 

Learning about employers before you apply can help you target organizations that match your interests and prepare stronger applications. 

• Review job search sites, like indeed, LinkedIn, handshake, idealist, and niche job boards for your industry, to identify employers who are hiring for positions of interest in your target location. Even if an employer doesn’t have a relevant co-op posting, knowing who is hiring generally can help identify target employers. 
• Your Co-op Advisor can help identify industry specific niche job boards.
• Drexel Career Library Guides –  Search job search guides organized by industry and international region and browse additional job search advice guides.   
• GoinGlobal – Access country-specific and U.S. city career guides, corporate profiles, and millions of job and internship listings updated daily. To access GoinGlobal:
  • Log in to DrexelOne.  Select the Co-op + Career Services tab.  Choose the GoinGlobal link in the Career Services channel. 
• Mergent Intellect – Search for organizations by industry, location, and other criteria. Access detailed company profiles and contact information to support your employer research and networking. 
• Vault Guides – Review rankings of internship/co-op programs and of top employers, organized by industry.  

Don't overlook small and mid-sized organizations, startups, and regional employers. These organizations often provide meaningful experiences and excellent opportunities for career growth. 

Stay Organized 

Maintain a list of employers you are interested in and track: 

• Organization name and website
• Industry and location
• Positions of interest
• Application deadlines
• Networking contacts
• Follow-up activities 

An organized job search helps you prioritize opportunities, personalize your applications, and maintain professional communication throughout the recruiting process.
