Pool Hours

The Drexel Recreation Center offers swim lessons to participants ages 15+ who wish to learn to swim or improve their skill level in group or private settings. The participant will work directly with their instructor to outline specific individual goals and objectives they have for the course.

Group sessions are offered over four weeks with set dates and times. Group lessons are non-refundable. Please email aquatics@drexel.edu or call the Aquatics Coordinator at 215-895-5915 for each term's specific group lesson schedule.

Private lessons are scheduled based on instructor and swimmer availability during our Open Lap Swim hours. Please contact the Aquatics Coordinator to be added to the private swim lesson waitlist. You will be notified once an instructor becomes available.

Group Swim Lesson Levels

Beginner I 

This class is designed to help individuals master basic water safety including getting comfortable in the water, floating, breathing, treading water, body positioning, and very basic freestyle skills. This level is for individuals who are not comfortable in the water or cannot safely make it one lap, unassisted, across the pool without stopping. 

Beginner II

The focus of these lessons is freestyle technique and endurance. Participants must be comfortable in deep water and able to get across the pool safely without assistance. Skills taught will include the freestyle kick, side breathing, body positioning, and arm motion.

Intermediate 

This class is for those who can make it across the pool with freestyle but may need some technique assistance to improve efficiency. Additional strokes and skills can be taught at this level as well as upon request.  

Private Lessons

Private lessons are one-to-one sessions with an instructor that best fits your swimming goals. Lessons are sold in 5,8, or 10 packs of 30-minute sessions and are valid for one calendar year. Lessons are scheduled based on your availability and a 24-hour cancellation policy applies to all scheduled lessons. You may request an instructor. Contact the Aquatics Coordinator to be added to the private swim lesson waitlist. You will be notified once an instructor becomes available.

Semi-Private Lessons

Semi-private lessons are for groups of 2 to 4 people, which you create. The group should have swimmers with similar goals and scheduling availability, and we will assign an instructor to best fit the group's needs. Lessons are valid for one calendar year and a 24 hour cancellation policy for scheduled lessons applies.

Registration and Refund Policy

Please register for lessons on the Member Portal, in person or over the phone with Member Services. Member Services hours are Monday-Thursday 10am-8pm and Friday 10am-6pm, 215-751-3830. Group swim lesson registration, will takes place the first day of each new quarter beginning at 10am. Contact Aquatics Coordinator to be added to the private swim lesson waitlist and you will be notified once an instructor becomes available. 

Aquatics programs are non-refundable except in cases of:

  • Termination of University employment/enrollment.
  • Formal leave of absence and sabbaticals (documented verification required).
  • Changes in medical condition resulting in physical limitations (physician documentation required).
  • A move equal to or greater than a 20-mile radius from Drexel University (documented verification required).
