Report on Generative AI Impact

This message was shared with faculty and staff on August 11, 2023.

Dear Colleagues,

Over the winter, I charged a Working Group on the Educational Impact of Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) Tools with investigating the implications and opportunities presented by AI and machine learning to advance Drexel’s academic mission. The group, chaired by Vice Provost for Undergraduate Curriculum and Education Steve Weber, completed its charge in June, and I am pleased to share an update on their work, including the full report, with you today.

Standing Committee and Report Presentation

To ensure a continual focus on these evolving areas, we will be moving forward with the creation of a standing committee, as recommended in the report. The committee will collaborate with University leadership to determine next steps in implementing the recommendations.

At the Faculty Senate meeting on August 15 at 2:30 p.m., Vice Provost Weber and Edward Kim, associate professor of computer science and a Faculty Senate representative on the working group, will share recommendations from the report. Details about the meeting, including the Zoom link, can be found on the Senate SharePoint site.
