Designed to prepare the next generation of global leaders, Schwarzman Scholars is the first scholarship created to respond to the geopolitical landscape of the 21st century. Whether in politics, business or science, the success of future leaders around the world will depend upon an understanding of China's role in global trends.

Scholarship supports a year of graduate study leading to a Master's degree in Global Affairs at Tsinghua University in Beijing, one of China's most prestigious universities. The core curriculum focuses on three pillars of study: leadership, China, and global affairs. Elective courses focus on economics, public policy, and global affairs. Students live and study together on the campus of Schwarzman College, a newly-built, state-of-the-art facility, where all classes will be taught in English.

Who Should Apply:

To be eligible, you must:

• have an undergraduate degree by the start of the program
• demonstrate academic excellence
• demonstrate strong English skills
• be at least 18 but not yet 28 year of age by the start of the program

Schwarzman Scholars will be selected on the basis of not only their academic aptitude and intellectual ability, but also their leadership potential, entrepreneurial spirit, ability to anticipate paradigm changes, exemplary character, and desire to understand other cultures, perspectives and positions.

How to Apply

Applicants with passports from China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, or Macao

Program Deadline: May

Applicants who hold passports from Mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, or Macao must submit an online application through the China application system prior to the official application deadline in May. Finalists will be invited to interview at Tsinghua University in Beijing in July.

The Schwarzman Scholars program does not require a university endorsement process, but Undergraduate Research & Enrichment Programs is able to provide feedback on your materials prior to submission. If you are interested in meeting with a fellowships advisor or receiving feedback on your application, please submit a complete PDF of your application and a current resume to fellowships@drexel.edu at least three weeks prior to the official deadline. We will also provide additional information and coordinate mock interviews for those students called to an interview.

All other applicants

Step 1: Submit an Intent to Apply Form

Deadline: May 15

Students interested in applying for the Schwarzman Scholars program should submit an Intent to Apply form as soon as possible to set up a meeting with the Schwarzman Scholars campus representative to discuss the program and any steps you can take now to become a more competitive applicant.

Qualified students who submit an Intent to Apply form by May 15 each year will work closely with a fellowships advisor and experienced Drexel faculty/staff, who will help the candidate clarify goals and values, assist with application details, and advise on the application.

Candidates who submit an Intent to Apply form after May 15 are not guaranteed the same level of advising, but are still welcome to apply.

Step 2: Prepare Your Application

Step 3: Application Deadline: September

Candidates must upload and submit all required materials to the online Schwarzman application site. You will be asked to register your recommenders in the online application. These letters should be specifically tailored to the Schwarzman Scholars program and must be received by the application deadline.

Finalists will be called for a regional interview. UREP will coordinate mock interviews for any students called for a regional interview. Scholars are announced shortly after the interviews.
