The Human Rights Watch (HRW) Alan R. and Barbara D. Finberg Fellowship supports a one-year paid work experience at HRW for graduate degree holders interested in careers in human rights.
Fellows work full-time for one year in Human Rights Watch’s New York or Washington, D.C. office or in some instances another location, monitoring human rights developments in various countries, conducting on-site/in-office investigations, drafting reports and/or other materials on human rights conditions, and engaging in advocacy and media outreach aimed at publicizing and curtailing human rights violations.
The fellowship is open to candidates who hold an advanced (graduate) degree or will have a degree granted by June of the fellowship year in the fields of law, journalism, international relations, area studies, or other relevant disciplines from universities worldwide. Candidates with LL.B. degrees or advanced degrees in other relevant disciplines may also be considered. Citizens of all nationalities are encouraged to apply.
Prior research experience, including experience conducting interviews, ideally in the context of human rights research, is required. Demonstrated strong background in international human rights and commitment to building a career in human rights are also required.
