Through the Design-Your-Own Fellowship program, Equal Justice Works seeks to create opportunities for lawyers to transform their passion for equal justice into a lifelong commitment to public service. Equal Justice Works Fellows work to ensure equal access to justice and address unmet legal needs among underserved populations across the country.
Fellows receive a competitive salary, health insurance, loan repayment assistance, networking and training opportunities, and additional support.
Fellows design unique projects that serve and address a range of legal issues including domestic violence, homelessness, community economic development, immigration, civil rights, juvenile justice, employment rights, health care, consumer fraud, and environmental justice. Equal Justice Works then matches the fellow with sponsors to support their project.
Applicants must have graduated from an Equal Justice Works member law school (which includes Drexel's Kline School of Law) by the application deadline. As part of their application, Fellows also must have a host nonprofit organization to be their employer. The organization's role is to provide training, supervision, benefits (health insurance required), and other support that enables the fellow to successfully carry the goals of the project.
