Apply for the 2016-17 Carnegie Junior Fellows Program

The Carnegie Junior Fellows Program is a highly-competitive award that recent graduates to work for a year with a senior fellow in one of the program areas of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. Each year the Endowment offers 10-12 one-year fellowships to uniquely qualified seniors and individuals who have graduated during the past academic year. Junior Fellows are matched with senior associates – academics, former government officials, lawyers and journalists from around the world – to work on a variety of international affairs issues. Junior Fellows have the opportunity to conduct research for Carnegie publications, participate in meetings with high-level officials, contribute to congressional testimony and organize briefings attended by scholars, journalists and government officials.

Students must be nominated by their university to apply.


Who should apply?

To be eligible, you must:
  • Be a graduating seniors or have graduated in the last year
  • Be eligible to work in U.S. for the duration of fellowship period
  • Have strong academic performance in related field(s). Fellows generally have 3.7+ GPA

In addition, strong candidates typically demonstrate several characteristics:

  • Strong writing and analytic thinking skills
  • Intellectual curiosity in relevant fields
  • Undergraduate research experience of some kind
  • International experience of some kind (work, study, or travel)

Applying for the Carnegie Junior Fellows Program

To apply for this award, you must be nominated by Drexel University. We hold an open campus competition for nomination beginning in October.

Applying for nomination involves a few steps:

Step 1: Get Ready

Submit a Fellowships Interest Form and/or sign up for the Fellowships Blackboard Site to learn more about the Carnegie Junior Fellows Program.

Step 2. Apply for Nomination

Required Campus Application Deadline: November 30 at 12 PM (noon).
Interested candidates must submit an application for Drexel nomination by Monday, November 30. Carnegie Nominees will be announced in early December

You must complete Step 1 to receive an internal application. Students are encouraged to contact us in advance of the deadline to discuss the program and receive feedback.

Step 3: Nominee Application Review

Campus review deadline (for nominees): January 4, 2016 at 12 PM (noon).

Nominated students will submit a full application, including letters of recommendation by this date. Nominees will meet with the campus committee in early January to discuss their applications and receive feedback.

Step 4. National Application Deadline

Carnegie's national deadline is January 15, 2016, 5PM EST.
