Two students were nominated for the Graduate Students Award for the Lindau Meeting of Nobel Laureates for Medicine and Physiology.  Rachel Navarra is a PhD student in Pharmacology and Physiology with a concentration in Neuroscience and John Lee is pursuing a combined MD and PhD in Biomedical Engineering.

About the Nominees:

As a student within the Pharmacology and Physiology program at Drexel University College of Medicine, Rachel Navarra is a member in the laboratory of Dr. Barry Waterhouse. Her thesis project involves exploring how sensory processing is modulated while performing tasks that demand attention and the role of the locus coeruleus-norepinephrine neurotransmitter system in these processes.

John Lee is in his fourth year of the MD/PhD program at Drexel University College of Medicine and the School of Biomedical Engineering, Science and Health Systems, working in the lab of Simon F. Giszter. He is exploring the effects of robot rehabilitation and viral therapies to create novel treatment regimens for locomotion in spinal cord injury.

About Lindau:

The Lindau Award selects a group of top young researchers from around the world to attend the annual meeting with the Nobel Laureates in picturesque Lindau, Germany. At the meeting, there are opportunities for both formal and informal interaction between the Laureates and the young researchers. This year’s meeting will focus on Medicine and Physiology. Lindau Award recipients are nominated and selected by the sponsoring agencies and organizations.
