The SuperNova Undergraduate Research Fellows Program challenges motivated undergraduate students between sophomore and senior year to participate in progressively demanding undergraduate research experiences, courses, and projects. We’re thrilled to recognize our seven graduating seniors who have successfully completed this program. We are so proud of their hard work over the years and wish them the best in their future endeavors!
Sumaiya Begum
BS Biological Sciences, Honors
Sumaiya will be pursuing a Master’s in Biochemistry & Biophysics at Johns Hopkins University. During her studies at Hopkins, she will be conducting research to further her experience into a PhD program.
What is one thing you'll take from your undergraduate research career here at Drexel as you move forward into the world?
“The most impactful lesson I learned is that while adversity is inevitable, having faith in myself and my research teammates can get me through any obstacle. Research isn't linear nor is it perfect. However, having a team of amazing researchers by your side as well as having confidence in your own research abilities allows you to overcome errors, unexpected results, and any other hurdles that come along in the adventure research really is!”
Audrey Coffey
BS Psychology, Honors
Audrey will be attending law school at William & Mary beginning in the fall.
What is one thing you'll take from your undergraduate research career here at Drexel as you move forward into the world?
“I will take away the ability to dive deeper into issues and find out what I am passionate about. Working on my STAR project and senior thesis allowed me to determine populations I want to work with and understand how to tackle problems while gaining knowledge on systemic issues. I will also always appreciate the mentorship I had.”
Merlin Kochunilathil

Merlin will be pursing an MPH in Community Health & Prevention in the Dornsife School of Public Health at Drexel.
What is one thing you'll take from your undergraduate research career here at Drexel as you move forward into the world?
“Learning to write efficiently and succinctly is such an important skillset.”
Emily Johns
BA Chemistry/BS Environmental Science, Honors
Emily will be pursuing a PhD in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of Texas at El Paso, focusing on migration research on birds.
What is one thing you'll take from your undergraduate research career here at Drexel as you move forward into the world?
“Always focus on the research that makes you feel most passionate!”
Jasjit Kaur

Jasjit will be entering a PhD program in organic chemistry at Temple University.

“The critical thinking skills needed to tackle complex problems in chemistry.”
Merry Xiang

Merry will be attending medical school at Drexel University College of Medicine.
