When Frank Linnehan retired as dean of the LeBow College of Business last spring, Drexel was fortunate to be able to turn to Paul E. Jensen, PhD, to serve as interim dean. Over the following months, and after an international search that yielded a strong field of candidates, it became clear that the best choice for permanent dean was already performing the duties: We are very pleased to announce the appointment of Paul Jensen as the R. John Chapel Jr. Chair and Dean of LeBow College.
Dr. Jensen, who joined the College’s economics faculty in 1997, brings a wealth of experience in a variety of leadership and administrative roles at the University. During eight years as associate dean, he promoted and supported substantial improvements in both undergraduate and graduate programs, as well as in executive education and experiential learning. As director of the doctoral program for six years, he increased both enrollment and program support. He also led efforts that resulted in the creation of the Dornsife Office for Experiential Learning, and over seven years guided the expansion of student projects focused on solving real-world business problems. In 2016, he served as interim director of the Center of Hospitality and Sport Management, guiding the restructuring of its programs.
During his tenure as interim dean, Dr. Jensen increased support for research and developed and won support for implementing a three-year strategic plan that leverages faculty research strengths and stronger industry relationships in a business solutions context. We are confident that the plan will bolster interdisciplinary curricula and better prepare LeBow students for success in a rapidly changing economy.
In the Economics Department, Dr. Jensen’s research focused on international trade and industrial organization. He taught courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels primarily in international trade, microeconomics and managerial economics, and has expanded and led student residencies abroad. His teaching has been recognized with awards from both Drexel and Pennsylvania State University.
Prior to his academic career, Dr. Jensen worked as an engineer in the power generation division of General Electric. He received his bachelor of arts in economics and a bachelor of science in mechanical engineering from Syracuse University, and a doctorate in economics from Pennsylvania State University.
