Drexel Sport Management Students Travel to Ukraine to Develop Strategic Plan for Sports Facility

Five students from the Sport Management program at Drexel University’s Goodwin College will travel to Ukraine as part of a strategic planning initiative from July 15 - 24, 2011. Dmytro Kachurovs'kyy, a Ukrainian student in Drexel’s online Master of Science degree program for Sport Management and general director of Sport Club Meteor in Dnipropetrovsk, Ukraine, has called upon his peers in the program to assist with the facilitation of the sports facility’s operational goals by developing a strategic plan for the Center.

Five students were selected for the study abroad program through a competitive application process. Graduate students Danielle Boyle, Elizabeth Ernst, and David Kao, and undergraduate students Anthony D'Angelo and Ryan Pratt will be accompanied by Jennifer Valore, Sport Management program administrator. Valore, who will serve as on-site director during the trip, and Amy Giddings, assistant teaching professor at Drexel will oversee the students during all stages of the strategic planning process. Additionally, Cory Schmitt, director of Learning Technologies at Goodwin College, will join the group as professional videographer.

“We are excited about this amazing study abroad initiative and grateful to Sport Club Meteor for presenting us with an opportunity of a lifetime for our students,” said Valore. “This is a unique and challenging experience that brings exceptional experiential learning to their sport management studies.”

The team will be documenting their journey. To experience the trip through their eyes, visit the Ukraine Strategic Planning Trip blog (http://mobile.goodwin.drexel.edu/smtukraine/) and search for them on Twitter.com using hashtag #dusmtukraine.
