Family to Celebrate Nick Pipino’s Memory With 16th Annual University City 5K RunWhat: Nick Pipino’s brother, Stephen, and Drexel classmates will congratulate the winners of the annual University City 5K Run late Saturday morning in celebrating the memory of the Drexel student who was fatally stabbed 16 years ago. About 350 students and alumni runners will compete in the run, which will benefit the Nicholas P. Pipino Scholarship Foundation. The foundation will award scholarships totaling $20,000 to Drexel students.Pipino was killed in December 1992 outside Cavanaugh’s Restaurant & Bar in University City, where he worked part time as a bartender. The senior had been studying marketing.Drexel and the Foundation partner to host the race, which is part of Drexel’s Reunion Weekend. Rain or shine Awards ceremony will be held at noon in Drexel’s Quad, between 32nd and 33rd streets and Market and Chestnut streetsWhere: The race will begin and end at Drexel’s Main Building, 32nd and Chestnut streetsCourse: Beginning at 32nd and Chestnut streets, the course continues west on Chestnut Street, turning right (north) onto 33rd Street to Arch Street. The runners will turn right (east) onto Arch Street then, at 32nd Street, will turn left (north). The participants will continue until they reach Powelton Avenue, at which they will turn right (east) then left (north) onto 31st Street.
