Drexel Receives Construction Excellence Award for Recently Built Residence Hall
Drexel University received a Construction Award in the category of “Best Design Build Project” from the General Building Contractors Association (GBCA) for its Race Street Residence Hall.Completed in 2007, the 131,000-square-foot Race Street Residence Hall has 12 floors and houses 486 students. INTECH Construction was the contractor for the building while Erdy McHenry Architecture was the primary architectural firm. Other companies involved in the project were Cagley Harman & Associates, Indoor Quality Solutions, Inc., and Pennoni Associates, Inc.The Construction Excellence Awards is the premier construction awards program recognizing excellence in construction, safety and diversity. In its 11th year, the award program has been dedicated to creating a greater awareness throughout the region of the quality workmanship produced by union contractors.The GBCA is the Philadelphia Chapter of the Associated General Contractors of America. Dating back to the 1700s, the national association is one of the oldest trade associations in the United States. It serves a membership of 350 commercial, industrial and institutional general contractors, subcontractors, material suppliers and construction service firms in the Philadelphia five-county area of Montgomery, Bucks, Delaware, Chester and Philadelphia.
