Pardon Our Appearance: Great Court Ceiling Restoration Begins This Month
As the Main Building’s iconic Great Court approaches its 130th birthday, Drexel Real Estate and Facilities will be embarking on the final phase of the roof and skylight renovation project – repairing and restoring the interior ceiling. Work will begin the week of Oct. 25 and continue into January.
The first steps of this phase will include laying protection on the floor and stairs and protective enclosures over the statuary in the Great Court. Next, the entire Great Court will be covered with scaffolding so that contractors can access the plaster ceiling for restoration and repainting.
Despite the scaffolding, the Great Court will remain open to foot traffic, and access to all entrances, stairs, corridors, offices and classrooms in the Main Building will be maintained for the duration of the project. Students, faculty, professional staff and visitors are asked to follow posted signage as they make their way through the area.
Once the project is complete, the protective netting will be removed, and the Drexel community will get to experience the Great Court in all its restored beauty.
