Go Behind the Scenes of "The Daily Show" with Executive Producer and Comedian Adam Lowitt at Drexel

Go behind the scenes of the iconic Emmy® and Peabody® Award-winning satirical news program “The Daily Show” at Drexel University with a visit from writer and co-executive producer Adam Lowitt on Tuesday, Nov. 17. Lowitt, himself a standup comic, will start out the evening with a standup routine and then sit down with Karen Curry, director of Drexel’s Kal and Lucille Rudman Institute for Entertainment Industry Studies, to talk about how he went from being an intern 13 years ago to one of Jon Stewart’s senior writers and then executive producer.

Lowitt has continued as executive producer with new host Trevor Noah, who is already bringing in more of the coveted younger viewers to the show’s audience. Lowitt will discuss how such an insightful and incisive show comes together each night and how it is growing and changing under a new host.

“It’s rare that we get a chance to pull back the curtain on something as beloved as ‘The Daily Show,’” said Curry. “Adam Lowitt has been there for four presidential campaigns, hurricanes, tsunamis and even the rise of the Kardashians. This is an opportunity to hear straight from the source how all that gets turned into such smart and hilarious television.”

The event is free and open to the public, and will take place at 6:30pm in the Bossone Research Center’s Mitchell Auditorium (31st and Market Streets). It is presented by the Rudman Institute in the Antoinette Westphal College of Media Arts & Design with support from the Great Works Symposium of the Pennoni Honors College.

Students interested in everything from comedy to writing and TV management will have the chance to meet and chat with Lowitt.

Under host Jon Stewart (1999-2015),“The Daily Show” rose to critical acclaim, earning two Peabody® Awards for its satirical coverage of the 2000 and 2004 presidential elections as well as 21 Primetime Emmy® Awards, including winning outstanding variety, music or comedy series 10 years in a row (2001-2015). The show, which became “The Daily Show with Trevor Noah” in 2015, airs on Comedy Central in the US and on networks around the world. Lowitt won four Emmy® Awards for his role on the show.

As a standup comedian, Lowitt regularly performs in New York and across the country. He has performed on Comedy Central as part of John Oliver’s “New York Standup Show,” and in 2012 was selected to perform in the New Faces Showcase at the Just for Laughs festival in Montreal.
