Drexel University’s College of Engineering has selected James F. Albaugh, the president and chief executive officer of Boeing Commercial Airplanes and executive vice president of The Boeing Company, as Drexel’s 2012 Engineering Leader of the Year. Albaugh, who joins a prestigious group of engineering luminaries who have received the honor, will be presented with the award at a luncheon ceremony on Wednesday, June 27.

Drexel University researchers have found that the climate conditions at a major leatherback turtle nesting beach affects the early survival of turtle eggs and hatchlings. They predict, based on projections from multiple models, that egg and hatchling survival will drop by half in the next 100 years as a result of global climate change.

The Albert Schweitzer Fellowship recently selected three Drexel University College of Medicine students as Greater Philadelphia Schweitzer Fellows for 2012-13. Scirica of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit will address the class and receive an honorary degree. Judge Arlin M. Adams, who served on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit from 1969 to 1987, also will receive an honorary degree.

A group of students from Drexel Universitys College of Engineering are presenting this possibility as part of a sustainability design competition hosted by the Environmental Protection Agency that could earn them a $90,000 grant.
