Drexel's new Papadakis Integrated Sciences Building features a five-story vertical wall of living plants – the largest such wall in North America and the only one at a U.S. university. Scientists and students at Drexel are studying the biowall, an active living filter that removes volatile organic compounds from the air, to get a better understanding of how it works.

The $69-million Constantine N. Papadakis Integrated Sciences Building, opened September 20. It serves as the new home of Drexel’s biology department and includes North America’s largest living biowall,the only such structure at a U.S. university. The biowall, a 75-ft. high wall of plants, serves as a biological air filter, demonstrating Drexel’s longstanding commitment to sustainability and progressive research.

Westphal on the West Coast

This summer, the Antoinette Westphal College of Media Arts & Design launched its first academic foray to the West Coast with the “Westphal in LA” program. Drexel, which has sent hundreds of students to Los Angeles over the years through the co-op program, will now put students at the center of the entertainment business for an intensive summer program that teaches filmmaking and storytelling.

Study College Athletes Worth Six Figures Live Below Federal Poverty Line

A joint study released by the National College Players Association (NCPA) and Drexel University Department of Sport Management today reveals that the average fair market value of top-tier college football and men's basketball players is more than $100,000 each, but instead of getting what they're worth, the players receive athletic scholarships that don't cover the full cost of attending school, leaving many of them living below the poverty line.

Employees of Drexel University will meet as competitors in pursuit of glory and in celebration of fitness and sport in the second annual Drexel Employee Olympics. Gold Medal Day is on Sept. 7 when participants will compete in 11 different sports held at Drexel’s athletics facilities. The games are presented by A Healthier U, Drexel’s university-wide wellness program, and the Drexel Recreation Center.
National Hazing Prevention Awareness Week at Drexel
