Drexel University Announces 2010 Honorary Degree Recipients

Drexel University will confer honorary degrees to the following individuals during the University’s 2010 commencement ceremonies:Drexel University College of Medicine May 21, Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, 9 a.m. • Elizabeth Nabel, M.D., (speaker) the first female president of Brigham and Women’s Hospital, professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School, and former director of the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute at the National Institutes of Health, will receive a Doctor of Science, honoris causa. • Estelle Richman, chief operating officer for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, former Pennsylvania secretary of public welfare and former Philadelphia managing director, director of social services, commissioner of public health and deputy commissioner for mental health, mental retardation and substance abuse services, will receive a Doctor of Humane Letters, honoris causa.Earle Mack School of Law at Drexel University May 26, Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, 3 p.m.• Carolyn Lamm, (speaker) president of the American Bar Association, will receive a Doctor of Laws, honoris causa.College of Engineering, School of Biomedical Engineering, Science and Health Systems June 11, Daskalakis Athletic Center, 10.a.m• Rebecca Bergman, vice president of new therapies and diagnostics in the Cardiac Rhythm Disease Management (CRDM) business for Medtronic, member of the National Advisory Council of the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering in the national Institutes of Health and recently elected member of the National Academy of Engineering, will receive a Doctor of Engineering, honoris causa. • Richard E. Lindy lnner-City Public School Program at Drexel University (“Lindy Scholars Program”) to provide enhanced educational services to students and their families living in West Philadelphia and attending public schools, will receive a Doctor of Business Administration, honoris causa.
