The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee of the Workers’ Compensation Section of the Philadelphia Bar Association is seeking applicants for its annual scholarship.
Scholarship Information
What it is: A scholarship through the DEI Subcommittee of the Workers’ Compensation Section of the Philadelphia Bar Association to assist a deserving student with spring semester tuition.
Amount: The scholarship will be paid directly to the student’s school to help with spring semester tuition. One winner will be selected from a pool of all participating schools (Temple and Drexel for this year).
Funding: Checks are received by the Workers’ Compensation Section and issued directly to the recipient’s school. A subaccount of the section’s account has been set up to manage scholarship funds.
Eligibility
- Applicants must be students at Temple University or Drexel University law schools.
- Students from any year of law school may apply.
Application Requirements
- A 1–2 page essay responding to the prompt below.
- A letter of recommendation from a professor (law school or undergraduate) OR an employer.
- Do not include resumes or transcripts.
Prompt
Please respond in a 1–2 page essay: How would you use your life experience to enhance or promote the goals of diversity, equity, and inclusion as an attorney in the Philadelphia Workers’ Compensation community?
Selection Process
- All applications will be judged anonymously by the DEI Subcommittee members.
- Members will select the top 5 essays that best address the prompt and demonstrate merit based on the recommendation letter.
- The top 5 applicants will then be reviewed by the Section’s three co-chairs for final judging.
- The co-chairs will vote on the winner (majority rule). If there is disagreement, the DEI Subcommittee chairs will cast the deciding vote.
Submission
Applications are due no later than November 7, 2025 at 5:00 P.M.
