On December 30, 2021 The New York Times published an opinion piece co-authored by David S. Cohen, professor of law at Drexel University Thomas R. Kline School of Law, Greer Donley, assistant professor of law at University Pittsburgh Law School, and Rachel Rebouché, interim dean and James E. Beasley Professor of Law at Temple University Beasley School of Law.
In the piece, the scholars outline steps that the Biden administration can take to defend reproductive rights, specifically the right to abortion care. They suggest that Biden take the “obvious” actions of nominating judges who have defended reproductive rights and that the president speak out in support of reproductive rights.
They also recommend that the Biden administration take creative steps to protect reproductive rights, suggesting that the Biden administration could challenge a state laws that “conflict with the F.D.A.’s regulation of mifepristone [a medication used to end early pregnancy],” lease federal property to abortion providers, and expand access to abortion care provided through telemedicine services.
