Mike Lee, ’09, has been named by Billy Penn as one of 16 young attorneys who are shaping Philadelphia’s legal landscape.
Lee is the executive director and a co-founder of Philadelphia Lawyers for Social Equity, a nonprofit organization that pursues just outcomes for low-income individuals who have had contact with the criminal justice system.
As the managing attorney for the organization’s keystone Criminal Record Expungement Project, Billy Penn notes, Lee has personally argued more than 6,000 expungement and redaction petitions and provided training for other legal organizations and pro bono attorneys in this practice model.
Lee, who is 34, also sues employers who illegally use criminal record information as a basis for denying employment to job applicants.
He is currently campaign chair for Larry Krasner, the Democratic nominee for Philadelphia District Attorney and he serves on Lt. Gov. Michael Stack’s Pardon of Pardons advisory council. He also serves as co-chair of the Pennsylvania Bar Association’s Minority Bar Committee.
