The Huffington Post on Sept. 18 published Professor Lisa McElroy’s review of “Law Man,” a new book published by Crown that offers a gripping account of a former bank robber’s unexpected, successful quest for justice on behalf of a fellow prisoner.

“Law Man” tells the first-person account of former federal prison inmate Shon Hopwood’s efforts to get the U.S. Supreme Court to hear the case of John Fellers, a fellow prisoner who had been denied justice by the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals. The court eventually issued a 9-0 ruling, reducing Fellers’ sentence by four years.

In her review, McElroy describes the immense hurdles that petitioners must clear in order for the nation’s high court to consider their cases, underscoring the magnitude of Hopwood’s achievement.

Hopwood, now a law student living in Seattle, Wash., will discuss his book at the law school on Oct. 25 at an event sponsored by the American Constitution Society.
