A Sept. 28 ABC News story on medical expenses quoted Professor Robert Field concerning steps consumers may be able to take without compromising their health.
Two days earlier, ABC News quoted Field concerning the death of a hospital patient in Oakland, Calif.
The death, according to officials, was the result of a medication error made by a replacement nurse during a labor dispute between staff nurses and the health system that runs the hospital.
"Nurses and administrators should take no actions, no matter how financially compelling, that could harm patients," said Field. "There is no question that the hospital is responsible for insuring that all of them are capable of giving competent care."
