Class of 2011 alumna Kristin Shicora argued before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit on July 13. Shicora represented Elizabeth Liggon-Redding, who filed a legal malpractice suit against the estate of attorney Robert Sugarman. Along with classmate Iwona Rusek and Professor Richard Frankel, Shicora worked on the case through the school’s Appellate Litigation Clinic.
Liggon-Redding’s suit claiming Sugarman lost an earlier medical malpractice case by not providing an expert, was dismissed by U.S. District Judge Juan R. Sanchez on the grounds that the plaintiff failed to file a certificate of merit.
The amicus brief written by Frankel and the students argued that their client had submitted the necessary documents to proceed with her case.
