Building a Mosaic of Academic Success

Thursday, November 9, 2023

3:30 PM-4:30 PM

Join us for a student session as we hear from CLPSA's Fall 2023 Scholar in Residence: Professor Cary Martin Shelby (Chicago-Kent College of Law). Light snacks and beverages will be provided.

As a Black woman law professor, who has experienced chronic poverty and foster care, Professor Cary Martin Shelby has consistently observed that students from historically marginalized groups face unique barriers in terms of accessing the tools that they need to optimize their law school experience. Informed by Professor Shelby’s diverse, lived experiences, this session will guide students in developing the necessary tools for academic and professional success. Specifically, Professor Shelby seeks to fill some identifiable gaps by teaching students to understand the value of their differences, to lead with their strengths, and to build a mosaic of resources.
