Discussion: Philly D.A. and Criminal Legal System Reform

Thursday, August 25, 2022

6:00 PM-7:00 PM

Professors Anil Kalhan and Tracy Tripp, JD ’10, invite students, faculty, and staff members to join an opening discussion in connection with this semester’s Criminal Legal System Reform event series, in which we will screen and discuss the eight-part documentary series, Philly D.A. The documentary series explores the possibilities and limitations of the role that prosecutors can play in pursuit of broader criminal legal system reforms—and prominently features two Drexel alumni who have worked in senior positions with Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner. The episodes will be screened at the law school over the course of the fall semester, along with discussions with lawyers and advocates who have been involved in the various issues raised in the series. In this opening discussion on August 25, we will introduce the event series and discuss the current state of the criminal legal system in the United States, the “progressive prosecution” movement, and the manner in which criminal law is conventionally taught in U.S. law schools. First-year students are especially and enthusiastically encouraged to attend. Questions? Email siqi.cheng@drexel.edu.
