Philadelphia Environmental Film Festival - Regional Films

Saturday, April 22, 2017

1:30 PM-4:00 PM

Kline School of Law Professor Alex Geisinger will moderate a discussion of three short films focusing on environmental phenomena in the region, which will be screened during the Philadelphia Environmental Film Festival, to be held from April 21-23.

The discussion will follow the screening of:
  • "Nine Fires," a 10-minute documentary by Scott Kessler that concerns forest fires and camp fires in the New Jersey Pinelands.
  • The Pennsylvania premiere of "Birds of May," a 28-minute documentary by Jared Flesher that focuses on rufa red knots, a threatened bird species that makes a 19,000 mile journey each year from Tierra del Fuego to the Arctic Circle.
  • The world premiere of "King in the Mountain," a 55-minute documentary about the history of anthracite coal that explores social, economic and environmental impact of mining in northeastern Pennsylvania.
Geisinger is an expert on environmental law who works with the Public Interest Law Center of Philadelphia on issues involving environmental justice.
