Professor Anil Kalhan has been awarded the 2018 Professor Chris Kando Iijima Teacher and Mentor Award from the Conference of Asian Pacific American Law Faculty.
An authority on immigration, criminal and comparative constitutional law, Kalhan will receive the award at the CAPALF/Western Law Professors of Color Conference at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas in October.
Kalhan is chair of the New York City Bar Association’s International Human Rights Committee and he hosted “Immigration Law In, Through, and Beyond Moments of Distress,” a workshop at the Kline Institute of Trial Advocacy that drew 125 legal scholars in May 2018.
The award recognizes Kalhan’s excellence as a law teacher who has made outstanding contributions to public service. It was created by CAPALF to honor the life and achievements of Iijima, who was a distinguished teacher and scholar at New York University School of Law, Western New England School of Law and the University of Hawaii Richardson School of Law.
