Four members of the Trial Team advanced to the final round in the selective Summit Cup mock trial competition, where they took second place.
Robert Goggin, Hunter McMullin, Elizabeth Bertolino and Michael Wentz, all 3Ls, were undefeated in the first three rounds of competition.
The team was coached by Abbie Heller, assistant director of the Trial Advocacy program, and by attorney Catherine Eagan of the Defender Association of Philadelphia.
Hosted by the University of Denver Sturm College of Law, the competition is open only to the top mock trial teams around the U.S., based on performance in 12 major tournaments the previous year.
The competition uses attorneys and lay people to serve as scoring jurors, a feature that replicates dynamics in an actual trial. This year’s competition involved a civil wrongful death action, based on the case of Laci Peterson’s murder.
